A New Chapter: Culturally Diverse Music Education Consultation In Leicester City for Leicester/shire Music Education Hub

Carol Leeming MBE FRSA, Director of Dare to Diva, was appointed by Leicester/shire Music Education Hub (LMEH) in February 2019 , as Consultant and began work in March through April 2019. Carrying out consultation, with key people, musicians, tutors , academies, music project workers, etc. who are engaged primarily in Culturally Diverse Music Education, in the community in the city of Leicester.

For this work, Carol is using the framework of the Arts Council England Creative Case for Diversity,  with a view to a finding out about, current Culturally Diverse music making/education activities in the community, to identify the specific issues they may face in community settings, and cases of best practice. To also find out the level of awareness, of these key workers, groups organizations etc, as to the role and function of Leicester/shire Music Education Hub.

This will help begin a process to build trust, to encourage their attendance at a city wide consultation event in May 2019,  to further gather information, to establish a  meaningful dialogue with LMEH. As to the best ways for further engagement with LMEH,  to explore how best to identify  new voices e.g. to create a Culturally Diverse Music Network for the city and recruit new voices/representatives  to the LMEH organization.  After this event a final report will be prepared by Carol and submitted to LMEH for their further consideration. Thereby, hopefully initiating a new exciting chapter with regard to addressing overall Culturally Diverse Music Education in Leicester city.
